![]() It was a genuine question.Įdit: This got kind of toxic for no reason, so I’m probably not going to be replying to many comments anymore. I just wanted to see what everyone else sees in it. Didn’t expect this to be so controversial, as I was pretty clear in my post that I don’t think ALttP is a bad game. I also still absolutely adore games like Yoshi’s Island and Super Mario World that came out around the same time ALttP did.Įdit: Wow. I played Super Metroid for the first time this year and still enjoyed it. I have also played and loved Breath of the Wild. ![]() This is my first real 2D Zelda game, but it is not my first Zelda game. If you love ALttP, what is it that makes this game so special to you? Am I just missing something, or is this game really just not for me?Įdit: To answer some questions popping up… I’m more just curious why so many hold this game in such high regard. Everything about it just feels so bland, and I can’t point to a single thing in the game that I’m completely in love with.Īnd, to be clear, I’m not looking to dunk on ALttP or its fans, nor am I looking for someone to confirm I’m not the only one who doesn’t care for it. So while Super Metroid might be my least favorite 2D Metroid game, I can at least understand why it’s a lot of peoples’ favorite… but I don’t feel that way about A Link to the Past. Super Metroid also just oozes atmosphere and has some insanely captivating music. Exploration feels very open and natural in this game, even if its not always properly rewarded. For instance, I love the enemy and boss design. Still, I can at least recognize and even appreciate what the game does right. But I cannot, for the life of me, get past the controls and the clunkier design decisions. Typically when I play what most would consider a “good game,” I can at least understand why many might love it, even if I don’t share the same sentiment. I explored the thief town and some other areas, but nothing ever really grabbed me. Surely this is why people can’t get enough of this game! But no… the Dark World didn’t really change anything for me. I figured this was the hook I had been waiting for, and everything before this point was more or less just a tutorial for what was to come. When I got to the Dark World, I expected things would finally start to click for me. The music and graphics were good, but weren’t nearly interesting enough for me to push aside the lackluster gameplay and story. The story didn’t seem all that complex or interesting either. They were fine, and the puzzles were cute enough, but I felt less and less compelled to complete them as time went on. But the dungeons that Zelda is so famous for? I found myself so bored by them. It’s only a SNES game, though, so fair enough. I thought the combat was tedious and lacked depth. I don’t necessarily think ALttP is a bad game, but it certainly hasn’t won me over in the few hours I spent playing it. I honestly feel like an insane person for not liking any part of ALttP. I see it near the top of every single Zelda Tier List, up there with the likes of Breath of the Wild… and I just don’t get it. I do not understand the hype around A Link to the Past.
